    Lovely logic, live & learn, doubly so on (10) and the 63 problem. For problems (3)&(5) I would play those you recommend against a superior or peer player, however, I have made mucho $$$ against turkeys who "play safe". That said, only 6, sigh

    The announcers did a good job especially considering there was no transcription. One minor thing I would suggest is to try and avoid filler language such as “I mean”. The one announcer said “I mean” every sentence, hundreds of times throughout the game. It was distracting and took away from his worthwhile commentary.

    Playing for 4 hours with the flu? Rubbish! He had the sniffles. Here's how you know if you have the flu. You're lying on the sofa and out of your patio door you can see a $100 bill on the path. With the sniffles you go outside in your pyjamas and pick it up; with the flu you don't move.

    @3:11 I wouldn’t play it as he played, if you play 4+1 inside you can get both checkers. There is no logical reason to hit only 1 checkers in that case

    • @BackgammonGalaxy
      @BackgammonGalaxy 10 днів тому

      double-hitting is a mistake. As Marc explains, when the loose checker is placed on your 5-point it's better to hit loose and stay slotted, in order to make the 5-point (the golden point). If the opponent had opened with 41: 24/23 13/9, then double hitting with 4-1 is correct (6/2*/1*). But after opening 54: 13/8 24/20 then 41: 13/9 6/5* is correct as Marc explains why.

    40:00 Of course the game should stand. Fixing an invalid starting position must be done within the first 3 moves. If there was no time limit, then I could notice the illegal position while transcribing the next day and have them replay the match, and the tournament would never end. Anyway, it is not the job of any observer to point it out for them.

      No, in the world championship double elimination format, the undefeated winner receives a 5% of the prize pool prize, to compensate for the fact that there is only one final match, not two.

    Honestly there are way too many people talking. Great content but listening to those guys damn near start a major in public argument sucks. That one poor young guy couldn't say anything without getting hatefully rebuked by the old man. Pick one broadcast team and just leave it. It was the same in Monte Carlo. Do you not understand the purpose of women's sports or are you being intentionally obtuse? Women world wide have traditionally been excluded from participating in events like this. They had been relegated exclusively to the home and child rearing. As little as 50 years ago in the US, women couldn't open bank accounts by themselves, they couldn't attend Ivy League schools, they could be sexually assaulted by their spouse, they could be fired from their job for getting pregnant, and so on. This is still the case for a lot of women in other countries around the glob. The purpose of these events is to encourage more female participation and help to close the gender gap in events like this.
